MIPI M-PHY Compliance and Testing: How to Setup and Perform Critical Verification and Debug Tests

Thumbnail

The mobile device design world continues to adapt MIPI Alliance standards, making the need for engineers versed in electrical PHY layer compliance testing for higher-speed M-PHY serial interconnects greater than ever. A full set of tests for both the transmitter and the receiver are required to validate these designs – a tough task as both speed and complexity increase.

Understanding how to setup and perform critical verification and debug test doesn’t have to be a painful process however. To assist fellow engineers in the quest to better understand all things MIPI M-PHY, Chris J. Loberg, senior technical marketing manager at Tektronix, penned a technical how-to article for EDN. In his editorial, Loberg describes how automated test tools can provide simplified test setups and comprehensive test case coverage for testing both transmitter and receiver interfaces of M-PHY designs – ultimately making the life of a mobile device design engineer a bit easier.

Specifically, Loberg provides an overview of:

  • MIPI technologies
  • M-PHY transmitter testing
  • PSD measurements
  • Test instrument considerations
  • Transmitter test solutions
  • Receiver testing for M-PHY
  • Receiver test solutions
  • M-PHY protocol testing
  • And how the Oscilloscope works as a bit error detector.

Are you a designer working on MIPI M-PHY technology and face a number of difficult testing challenges? Want to dig deeper into MIPI M-PHY compliance and testing solutions? Want to know more about automated test tools that provide simplified test setups and comprehensive test case coverage for both transmitter and receiver interfaces of M-PHY designs? Then you are you going to want to check out Chris’ EDN article.

If the increasing acceptance of MIPI Alliance standards affects you then we would love to hear from you – feel free to share in our comment section below!
