BW of MSO54B scope vs. BW of probe TPP1000

Model: MSO54B | Subject: Compatibility | Published: October 2026 | FAQ ID: KB-01160

Question: How does the MSO54B Scope with a TPP1000, 10MΩ 1GHz passive probe get to 1GHz?

How does the MSO54B oscilloscope achieve a 1 GHz bandwidth when used with the TPP1000 passive probe (10 MΩ, 1 GHz)?
Since the TPP1000 is a 10 MΩ passive probe.
According to the MSO54B specifications (page 37), when set to 1 MΩ input, the oscilloscope bandwidth is limited to 500 MHz. So how can the full 1 GHz bandwidth of the TPP1000 be utilized?

Answer: The TPP1000 does not use the 1 MΩ input path.
Instead, it operates through a 250 kΩ termination, which is automatically configured by the oscilloscope when the probe is connected.
This design allows the system to achieve the full 1 GHz bandwidth without being limited by the 1 MΩ input mode.

For additional details about the 250 kΩ termination path, refer to the Tektronix FAQ:
